The Red-footed tortoise lives in drier forest areas, grasslands, savannahs and rainforest belts adjoining more open habitats.

DIET
IN THE WILD – Fallen fruit, vines, grasses, wild mushrooms, leaves and flowers
IN THE ZOO – Greens, hay, fruit, vegetables and specially formulated tortoise chow

• Can live 40 to 50 years
• Do not have teeth
• Use sharp edges around mouth to bite and chew food
• Have a hard protective shell that is part of the skeleton
  which contains 59 to 61 bones covered by plates
