Giraffes Are On The Way!

We are excited to announce that the first members of the Lincoln Children’s Zoo’s giraffe herd will arrive in Lincoln on September 4! Our giraffes will join Sumatran tigers, black-headed spider monkeys, and several other new species in our brand new, $20 million, 10-acre expansion. As we grow, we have also renewed our focus on the conservation and breeding of threatened and endangered species. We have SSP recommended breedings for our giraffes and spider monkeys, with premium welfare and successful captive breeding as priorities of our animal programs. Additionally, we introduced a new department and staff last year, the Conservation and Medicine Department, with the priority of contributing to conservation initiatives locally, nationally, and internationally. The giraffe herd will serve as a cornerstone of our public engagement to inspire children and families to learn about, and actively engage with, nature and wild animals.

Thank you for your interest in our position and our growing and changing zoo. We have a small footprint but we can have an enormous impact. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have further questions.
