Blue-Tongue Skink

Their range is Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea and are found in open woodlands, at the margins of forest and field, and semi-deserts.  Their body is heavy and broad on small legs with delicate toes and a broad, blunt triangular head.  Their deep, berry blue tongue is vividly offset against the deep pink interior of their mouth.

Blue-tongue skinks are omnivores, consuming both plant and animal matter.  Their diet consists of about 60% plant and 40% animal.  They like greens, mixed vegetables and some relish berries and juicy fruits.  Skinks produce 4 to 10 live young and grow from 40 to 60 cm.
